CTTC Bhubaneswar will Supply Sensor Technology to ISRO

BHUBANESWAR : CentralTool Room and Training Centre (CTTC) at Bhubaneswar has signed an agreement with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for transfer of technology for three types of sensors. A work contract with the premier space agency was also signed with Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) of ISRO for production of precision components and its capacity utilisation as a mission partner.

As per the agreement, the technology transfer for sensors and work contract for supply of spacecraft components of nearly `30 crore will be executed during next five years. Seeking co-operation from ISRO team for supplying defect-free components for various space mission activities, CTTC MD S Maity said the institute has geared up to develop its manufacturing facility to join as a reliable and contributing partner to the national aerospace missions.

“We have taken initiatives for making an aerospace consortium consisting of 16 local MSMEs and make a hub of aerospace manufacturing capability in Odisha,” he said. The CTTC has been supplying several critical components used in satellites and launch vehicles developed by ISRO under the national space mission. Supply of critical components for MARS mission in September, 2014 was a historic achievement.

It had also provided critical hardware items for Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and the 100th space mission. “We are now planning to establish specific facilities to supply more critical assemblies and sub-assemblies to ISRO for various space mission programmes under its expansion and capacity building programmes,” Maity said.

Emphasising on the technological requirement and challenges in manufacturing of items for spacecraft and launch vehicles, Associate Director of LPSC D Gangadhar said CTTC has to overcome challenges and work in innovative ways to achieve further success.

Group Director R Narayan highlighted the challenges, opportunities and scope in aerospace mission. Among others, Principal Secretary of MSME Department LN Gupta, head of quality (CTTC) Dr S K Kar and deputy general manager L Raj Sekhar were present.
