Four persons were killed and five others seriously injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling collided with the side bars of a bridge near Chingudipur Chhak in Odisha’s Bhadrak district in the early hours today. According to reports, nine pilgrims from Bankura district of West Bengal had gone to Puri for the darshan of the Lords at the Shri Jagannath Temple. After having the darshan of the Lords, they were on the way to their native place in a Bolero jeep when the driver lost control of the vehicle as the result of which the vehicle collided with the side bars of a bridge near Chingudipur Chhak on the outskirts of Bhadrak town killing four pilgrims on the spot and leaving the five others including the driver seriously injured.
The mishap took place at about 4.30 AM, eyewitnesses said. Following information, police arrived at the spot and rushed five seriously injured pilgrims to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The four bodies were later taken for post mortem. The identity of the deceased was not known, police said.
