You might be aware that last year, Samajwadi Party of Uttar Pradesh came to power by promising distribution of free laptop an tablets to students of Uttar Pradesh. They kept their promise and has already started distribution of laptops and tablets to students. This scheme is very popular among students or you can say young voters. Naveen Patnaik government in Orissa is also trying to cash on in this scheme and in the process has promised free laptop distribution in Orissa for students. Though as per initial announcement, these laptops will be given to poor meritorious students. He also said that focus will be on women, tribal and Dalit categories. Though this is just an initial announcement or draft proposal which will go through the refining process before it turns into reality. But anyway the crux will be same that students of Odisha are now going to get free laptops. This way poor meritorious who cannot afford a laptop will get a free laptop and thus it will help to bridge the digital gap to some extent. Not only this some other very important announcements were also made for youths and students of Orissa. Some of them are :
- Distribution of free data cards to students.
- Scholarship of Rs 40,000 to BPL girls for their higher studies in private technical institutions.
How to apply for free laptops in Orissa?
Once this proposal of Naveen Patnaik government get finalised, eligible students can fill the application form in their schools and colleges to get the free laptops. Like previously mentioned by me that priority will be to give away free laptops to poor meritorious students who are girls or belong to tribal or Dalit categories. This category may get extended depending on budget which is allocated for this purpose.
Expected start date of laptop distribution in Orissa is this financial year, but it is not final yet that in which it be staring.
