Bhubaneswar : Congress leader Prasad Harichandan will continue as the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president till 2019 elections, informed OPCC Discipline Committee chairperson Sandhya Rani Mohapatra today.
As the AICC president Rahul Gandhi did not approve his resignation, he will head the State unit of the grand old party, Mohapatra added. Prasad to remain in his post as the AICC president Rahul Gandhi is not in favour of changing the state party chief ahead of the 2019 general elections which only 8-9 months to go, Mohapatra said in a statement.
Uncertainty loomed over the possible appointment of another face in the state unit of Congress as the party chief met an end with the statement clearing political speculations about the next OPCC president.
Prasad had tendered his resignation from his post as the OPCC president following party’s debacle in the recently concluded Bijepur assembly by-poll in Bargarh district.
